Sarah LeeSarah Lee lived in Kerr Alhagi Mallik for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer and was routinely inspired by the bright students in her community. Upon her return to North America, she worked with a local teacher to establish the KAM Scholarship Fund. As Founder and Executive Director, she volunteers her time to raise funds and awareness in Canada and the US serving as a bridge between donors who want to have a direct impact and Gambian students who will make big returns on their investments.
Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Sarah has a BA from Cornell University in Sociology with minors in International Relations and Social Inequality and an MS from McGill University's Bioresource Engineering Department in Water Resource Management. |
The three men who have served as co-administrators of the KAM Fund were born and raised in Kerr Alhagi Mallik and among the first people from the village to earn university degrees. Mbye Gai has been co-administrator of since 2014. Mbye earned a Teacher's Certificate and taught for several years in the provinces before attending the University of The Gambia where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Economics with Honours in 2019. Basiru Gai served as co-administrator from 2012-2014. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Basiru is currently a high school math teacher and vice-principal in Kuntair, North Bank. In 2012, Basiru was nominated by the parents of scholarship students to serve as the local administrator of the scholarship. Modou Bittaye served as co-administrator from 2008-2012 and is currently a head master of a senior secondary school on the South Bank.
The co-administrator of the KAM Scholarship Fund volunteers his time to advise students on their educational progress, gather receipts and report cards, distribute funds, and act as the intermediary between scholarship students and the fund organizers. |
